With the battle raging between major corporations (think Disney, Netflix, Amazon et al.) to capture audience interest, control the content verticals, and constantly innovate to sustain their subscription audience base, the net beneficiary from this epic battle of the titans are those creative businesses with the talent for editing content. It’s really interesting to see the successful sale of Cubic Motion to video game Giant, Epic and an exit for NorthEdge Capital;

Naturally, visual effects and production service companies are attracting interest from trade buyers such as California-based post production and VFX company, Picture Shop, acquiring The Farm (UK) in 2019 and Denmark-based Ghost VFX earlier this year.
Private Equity are also investing in the space with Gemspring Capital’s investment in visual effects and production service company, Crafty Apes, in November 2019. Subsequently, Crafty Apes acquired Vancouver-based CVD VFX earlier this year. CVD VFX is an award winning, full-service visual effects company.
The good news for animation, design, and visual effects companies based here in the UK looking to grow and/or looking to realise value from their businesses, is that there are plenty of options available – ride that wave of activity while you can.
